Artificial Turf ‘Dos’ and ‘Don’ts’

Synthetic turf has surely advanced the plantation sector. It has given nature a competition. People now prefer artificial to natural because it is the most convenient out of the two. Artificial turf has attracted people by its beneficial characteristics and alluring appeal. It is now being used in sports, businesses, play-grounds and even for regular residential use.

Synthetic turf’s popularity does not seem to fade away any time soon. In fact, it’s numerous applications just keep on adding up as one’s imagination goes on.

One of the many reasons why this is so can be accounted for the advantages it provides over natural grass. And how easy it is to take care of it in comparison with natural turf. But there are still a few things about artificial turf that needs to be handled in a peculiar way.

Here is our guide to dos and don’ts regarding artificial turf to save you from “I wish I knew this sooner” thought. For more, visit our site.

Dos

  1. Maintenance:

We know that artificial turf goes easy with the maintenance topic. It doesn’t require as much water as natural turf does. It also doesn’t need chemicals or fertilizers to stay well-functioning.

But all of this doesn’t mean that it requires no maintenance at all. You would need to take some care of it. This involves just an overall check and balance on the situation of the lawn. Look out for any kind of foul growth on the turf or weed growth. And check to see if your synthetic turf is in need of something.

The lesson here is less maintenance not no maintenance.

  1. Sub-base:

There’s a lot that, if goes wrong in the installation phase, can come back to be a huge problem. One of which is not creating a clean and smooth sub –base beneath synthetic turf.

Before rolling out the artificial turf carpet, there has to be a sub-base build. If it’s missing, the lawn can have dig or holes. That could be a hassle. So, it’s better to avoid them by building a sub0base beneath the turf.

  1. Weed-membrane:

This is not a strict ‘do’ that you need to follow. It is rather a preventive measure. And of course, prevention is better than cure.

And hence, it is advised to install a weed barrier before rolling your turf to make sure weed won’t be a problem for your lawn in the future.

  1. Secure your artificial turf:

One common mistake especially in DIY artificial turf instalment, is the misconception that artificial turf would stay at its place by itself.

It doesn’t work like that. You would have to secure the turf carpet with the surface to ensure proper instalment. People use many different things for this purpose. Nails and a hammer are easy and common options.

Don’ts

  • Winter season:

Snow or frost of the winter season would not damage the synthetic turf fibres. But things can go wrong by one’s careless actions.

If your synthetic turf is covered with frost or damage, make sure you don’t use or even walk on it before it properly melts away.

The frost covered turf won’t be damaged unless you force the process by walking on it. The best method in the winter season is to let frost or snow melt into water properly.

  • Hard chemicals:

Artificial turf doesn’t require much chemicals on its surface. But if you may need to add a few chemicals, make sure they are not harsh. Artificial turf doesn’t respond to harsh chemicals positively.

  • Pet’s waste materials:

Indeed, it is easier to clean pet’s waste materials or other foul materials off synthetic turf as opposed to natural turf.

But this doesn’t mean you can procrastinate your way out of this. The cleaning must be done right away as soon as the animal faeces are dried enough to be handled. Otherwise, your lawn would be left with a foul odour spreading along with potentially harmful substances.

  • Away from fire:

You don’t have to worry about your synthetic turf catching fire. But we do mean to keep fire as far as possible from fake turf. The reason is, fake turf fibres are plastic and should be treated that way. So, the fire or hot object may besmirch your synthetic turf.
